My name is Szilvia Fülöpné Magyar. I live in Budaörs, in Hungary. I am a glass artist.
In our family there are glass- and picture-framing masters. Years ago I got the idea that I would also like to work with glass, but in a slightly different way. Under the brand Sysy-Glass I have managed to realise my ideas.
My studies and my internshipsk:
– glass painting
– Tiffany technique
– stained glass
– glass blowing
– flame working (working with borosilicate glass)
– glass casting
– fusing
Of all the techniques I learned, glass fusing I felt closest to me. I use this technique to make my glassware.
The technique is to fuse 2-3 or more sheets of glass, or different shapes of glass, the glass powder, glass fibre, broken glass pieces, by placing them on top of each other at a temperature of around 700-850°C. This is then fired again to a special mould, which gives it its final form.
I melt my glassware in my own electric glass kiln. During the glass melting process small air bubbles can appear which, when trapped inside the glass, cause interesting light refractions. These add to the beauty of handmade glass products.
I work exclusively with high quality imported glass (COE 96 Spectrum, COE 104 Moretti).
I design the pattern and colors of the bowls, and I cut, grind and clean all the glass pieces myself. This is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, as there can be up to 100 pieces in a sample. I may also need a lot of small glass frit or glass powder, which I also produce myself in my workshop.
I try to make bowls in different styles, showing the versatility of glass fusing.
These are handcrafted products, so no two objects are exactly alike. Even with the same pattern there can be differences.
I am confident that you will like the glass products I have made.
If you have any questions about any of these products or would like to have a custom glass bowl made, please feel free to contact me.
